The development was originally created as a private training center for PricewaterhouseCoopers under a master lease. At the time, trainees were traveling from around the world to attend multi-week high- tech training courses at the facility. Company president Joe Collier proposed the partnership between Mainsail and PwC, and the $50 million complex was created.
This deluxe property now operates as a full-service extended stay hotel that features 120 villa-style suites and a state-of-the-art conference center, which can accommodate up to 700, with a host of business and recreational facilities. The Mainsail Suites Hotel and Conference Center is situated in a prime location within minutes of The Tampa International Airport, family-friendly attractions, national sporting venues, world-class shopping, historic districts, top-rated golf courses, and Tampa’s bustling downtown area and waterfront Convention Center.
In 2002, Mainsail began to acquire Marriott ExecuStay franchises in the Southeast. In June of 2009, Mainsail purchased a luxury beachfront condominium, a marina, and surrounding acreage on Anna Maria Island – an area known for its fusion of natural wonders, outdoor recreational offerings and Old Florida coastal charm. The property boasts 12 boutique resort accommodations, private beach clubhouse along the pristine shores of the Gulf of Mexico, and a 50-slip marina that can accommodate watercraft up to 50 feet in length. The property is consistently recognized by TripAdvisor® with its Certificate of Excellence award year after year.

In 2011, Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina became the first Autograph Collection® hotel in the Caribbean and Marriott International’s first property in the British Virgin Islands. The Autograph Collection® is a group of exceptional independent hotels, each hand-selected for their originality, character and uncommon details.
In February of 2013, Mainsail announced plans to convert 240 of the one- and two-bedroom suites at the 360-room Mainsail Suites Hotel & Conference into long-term residential units, known as Mainsail Apartment Homes. The newly created complex also offers furnished temporary corporate housing through ExecuStay®. The remaining 120 suites continue to function as hotel inventory, along with the existing 17,000-square-foot special events center.
As part of the conversion, a $1.5 million renovation included interior upgrades to all apartments and suites, as well as the clubhouse and lobby. The centrally located Mainsail Apartment Homes offer spacious apartment living with the amenities of a full-service hotel, including heated pool and hot tub, fitness center, convenience store, clubhouse restaurant and more. Additional services and amenities available include housekeeping, room service, dry cleaning and valet service.
